Sanskrit Buddhist Readings

July 21 – August 15, 2008 (4 weeks)

This intensive Sanskrit course is designed for students with a minimum of one-year prior Sanskrit studies. The program provides an introductory grounding in reading Buddhist philosophical literature in Sanskrit focusing on the literature of the Yogacara and Madhyamaka Schools. The course gives students a thorough introduction to the unique features of Buddhist Sanskrit while also providing an opportunity to thoroughly cover Sanskrit grammar within the context of classical Buddhist readings.

Students who complete the intensive course will emerge from the four weeks of study with substantial progress in their ability to read classical Buddhist Sanskrit literature.

The course is accredited at the Centre for Buddhist Studies for Sanskrit III (3 credits).

US$ 980. Price includes tuition, lunch at the Institute’s restaurant, and tours.
